William Ullmer

William Ullmer has over 20 years of global investment banking experience, advising boards and senior management teams on complex M&A, capital structure and strategic transactions. He has worked in Melbourne, Sydney, New York and London across a broad range of sectors including general industrials, consumer and transport infrastructure

Prior to joining Flagstaff Partners in 2021, William was a Managing Director at Perella Weinberg in New York, where he advised S&P 500 clients predominantly in the general industrials sector. He also led Perella Weinberg’s Japanese cross‑border M&A activities in partnership with Mizuho. Before joining Perella Weinberg in 2013, William was at Gresham Partners in Australia, and began his career as a graduate analyst at UBS in 2006

Since joining Flagstaff, William has advised on a number of high‑profile and complex transactions, including: advising Far East Consortium and Chow Tai Fook on the A$3bn buy‑out of Star Entertainment’s interest in Queen’s Wharf Brisbane and the associated A$1.2bn refinancing; Orora on the carve‑out and sale of its closures business to Interpack; Beak & Johnston on the carve‑out sale of City Kitchen and B&J New Zealand to Woolworths; Pact Group on its response to the A$922m off‑market takeover offer by Kin Group; Aurizon on the A$925m sale of East Coast Rail to Magnetic Rail Group; and Star Entertainment on its A$800m capital raising and proposed A$17bn merger with Crown Resorts (subsequently withdrawn). William has also advised multiple ASX 100 companies on strategic and capital management reviews

At Perella Weinberg, William’s notable transactions included advising Northrop Grumman on its US$9.2bn acquisition of Orbital ATK; Qatar Investment Authority on its US$1.19bn investment in HK Electric Investments; Transcontinental Inc. on the sale of its kraft paper and WPP sacks business for US$180m; and Phibro Animal Health Corporation on its NASDAQ IPO.

Earlier in his career at Gresham Partners and UBS, William advised on transactions including the sale of Witchery to Country Road, Pacifica Group’s sale of a 75% interest to Robert Bosch GmbH, a number of public company takeover defences, and the Australian Government’s A$15.4bn Telstra 3 share offer

William holds a Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Accounting) from the University of Sydney
